Bell Microproducts Selects ARKIVIO® auto-stor Software and Reduces Backup/Recovery Window by 35%
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 24, 2003 - Arkivio Inc., a leader in data lifecycle management solutions, announced today that Bell Microproducts (NASDAQ: BELM), one of the worlds largest international value-added distributors of network storage and semiconductor products has chosen ARKIVIO® auto-stor to automate capacity management of the companys ever-growing, heterogeneous data storage network.
Headquartered in San Jose, California, Bell Microproducts sells products to more than 150 suppliers in North America, Latin America, and Europe and manages a diverse set of information within its expanding DAS and NAS environment, such as quotes, configurations, solution bundles and contracts. Prior to installing the Arkivio software, our IT managers relied primarily on inefficient manual processes to manage storage resources and user directories, asserts Paul Collins, vice president of services and technical support for North America. We chose ARKIVIO® auto-stor because it automates capacity management and enabled us to reduce our backup and recovery window by 35%, which is significant since were managing roughly 1.5TB of data.
With ARKIVIO® auto-stor, Bell Microproducts is able to non-intrusively identify their high and low value data and classify storage resources by type, cost, or make/model. Its administrators can now automatically migrate less critical production data from their file servers to the low-cost NAS volumes, according to pre-defined policies and thresholds, which reduced weekly full-system backup cycles from six hours to four hours. In addition, by intelligently optimizing the placement of data and the utilization of storage resources, ARKIVIO® auto-stor enables Bell Microproducts to fully utilize existing storage, prevent work stoppage due to volumes exceeding capacity, and automate the day-to-day storage management tasks that burden its IT administrators.
ARKIVIO® auto-stor is a strong enabling tool for business continuance as IT Departments seek to reduce disaster recovery times, adds Giovanni Paliska, president and CEO of Arkivio. We are pleased to announce Bell Microproducts as one of our strategic customers and we are confident that ARKIVIO® auto-stor will provide them with a strong ROI solution to add value to their heterogeneous data storage environment - reducing repetitive tasks and current expenditures while helping them to plan for more cost-effective future storage purchases.
ARKIVIO® auto-stor automates the discovery of data and storage resources in DAS, NAS, and SAN environments without requiring installation of server agents. Administrators are able to measure and prioritize in real time the changing value of their data and storage resources, as well as monitor and report on available and used capacity on servers, in directories, volumes, and storage groups. In addition, ARKIVIO® auto-stor gathers critical information about the changing value of data within the enterprise, and automatically and intelligently matches data to the most appropriate storage resource. Its Policy Automation Engine (PAE) proactively resolves storage management issues without the need for manual intervention. The PAE searches all data and volumes across the network and intelligently migrates files from high-cost storage to low-cost storage or from over-utilized storage to under-utilized storage, according to policies and thresholds set by the administrator.
