FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Arkivio and PTC System Collaborate to Provide ILM Solutions to the Bioinformatics Institute
PTC to resell ARKIVIO® AUTO-STOR solutions to the Singapore Market
Singapore :: May 4, 2006
Arkivio Inc., providing leading Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) solutions for the enterprise, and PTC System (PTC), a leading provider of integrated IT solutions in Singapore, announced today that the Bioinformatics Institute (BII) has selected PTC services and ARKIVIO® AUTO-STOR ILM software for their Data Archival and HSM Solution. The ARKIVIO - PTC solution will provide identification, monitoring and placement of BII’s data based on the classification of the data. This best-of-breed ILM solution was selected because if its ability to meet the stringent requirements set forth by BII in particular its ability in one solution to support the discovery, classification and migration of its data across a heterogeneous tiered storage environment.
“The BII tender was explicit in requiring one solution that could manage CFIS and NFS data produced by the various operating systems we used and stored across EMC, NetApp® and other storage platforms,” said Lai Loong Fong, Data Storage Manager BII. “The solution offered by PTC System with the ARKIVIO software integrates discovery, classification and data management into one solution, across the Windows® and Unix® platforms.”
The ARKIVIO® AUTO-STOR classification system is unique in the industry and helps customers create processes and policies around different data types, data owners, location of the data in the directory structure, and storage. This contextual classification enables companies to efficiently move data to the right storage tier based on the data’s value to the business. The Arkivio software will also provide BII end users with transparent access to archived data ensuring they can find and access repository data just as they would if the data remained on primary storage.
“Our solutions simplify data management, data access and quick data recovery,” said SS LIM, Managing Director, PTC System. “ARKIVIO® AUTO-STOR will provide our customers like BII with the ability to cost effectively manage their data growth across their storage environment. Our customers have complex networks of compute servers, systems and different storage devices and they want the comprehensive solution Arkivio offers to manage these heterogeneous environments”.
“ARKIVIO® AUTO-STOR software integration with NetApp Data ONTAP™, EMC Celerra® and Centera™, and all platforms that support UNIX®, Linux, and Windows® files systems will help BII and other customers of PTC to make intelligent decisions about how they manage their information across primary and secondary storage systems” said Bob Grewal, Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Arkivio. “PTC’s extensive experience with large organizations in supporting their data management needs as well as their customer first business philosophy makes them an ideal value added reseller for Arkivio.”
About Bioinformatics Institute (BII)
The Bioinformatics Institute (BII) was set up by the Agency for Science and Technology Research (A*STAR) in July 2001. It was conceived as a Research and Postgraduate training Institute within the Biomedical Research Council (BMRC). With a multi-disciplinary focus and collaborative outlook, the BII recognizes the need to emphasize depth as well as breadth in all its activities for building a thriving world class biomedical research, graduate training and development hub in Singapore. In addition, we are proactively involved in building a national resource centre in bioinformatics to meet the evolving needs of the scientific user community in Singapore.
